So, I'll admit, I only started watching Supernatural regularly since 'Lazarus Rising'. It's only recently that I finally watched the Pilot on DVD.
Yup.
Weird thing is, I've actually been a Supernatural fan since 2005... and didn't even know it at the time! I didn't have cable TV before 2005 (We had a whopping 2 channels prior to that) and frankly, if someone asked me about a 'hiatus' or a 'premiere' or a 'finale', I would have looked at them like they were from Mars. So when I did get cable, I was excited that I could finally watch
something... Smallville was the first one I discovered because I was a fan of Superman, and when I saw 'Smallville' on the guide, I said "Hey, isn't that where Superman grew up?"

.
But anyhoo. About Supernatural-- I'd seen the previews for the premiere of Season 1 and thought they looked like the most amazing/creepiest thing I'd ever seen. But I didn't know that it actually
was for the premiere, and I didn't know when it would play, and I didn't know how to... well, do anything properly with satelite TV. So I missed it, naturally, but subsequently watched any episode that crossed my path after I got a little used to the remote

, thinking they were all completely out of order and that I was in the middle of season god-knows-what. Which makes for a confusing jumble of what was actually happening in the season arc... but I enjoyed every millisecond of what was happening nonetheless.
I now own the DVD's and as I was watching them last month, I remembered some of the things I watched 4 years ago, when I had no idea what was happening, and actually realized I
had watched most of the episodes of season one in 2005, but I just hadn't put them together! Evidently, the stuff about their mom and Jessica dying flew over my head most of the time back then. Watching the Pilot would have helped in clearing stuff out, and I'm so glad I finally watched it, because it did! I especially loved watching it now that we're in the thick of season 4 and now that I've watched most episodes of both season 2 and 3... you can see how Sam and Dean's relationship evolves, as well as Jensen and Jared's! You can see throughout Season 1 how they get more comfortable with their roles and all... it's amazing.
The end of the Pilot is so well done, too. "We've got work to do." in other words, bring on the awesome. (As an aside, I also LOVE LOVE the fact that they repeated that line in the finale of season 2... harkening all the way back to the Pilot!)
