Make of this as you will.

Question: Your Supernatural asterisk quiz last week was just plain cruel! –Betsy

Ausiello: You know what else it was? Wrong! Turns out I had one too many asterisks in the second word. The revised (and correct) quiz is below. Sorry for the inconvenience. As a make-good, I went ahead and filled in an extra word.

Sam learns in the season finale that ******i** ****** is the ***** **** that has ** ** broken ****** ******* can ***e.

Most people think it's:

Sam learns in the season finale that defeating/murdering Lilith is the final seal that has to be broken before Lucifer can rise.

I also heard "murdering Castiel" or "summoning Lucifer" but for me it makes more sense that since Lilith is the player to free Lucifer, she has to pay the price for his freedom. I could be wrong but at the moment it seems logical that killing Lilith is the last seal.

Would also explain why she wanted to stop breaking the seals if Sam and Dean gave up their lives.

I like this theory. But I'm not making any theorizing until I see it. I'm done with Supernatural playing with my brain! :)

 Oh, I like it when they mess with me!
I have no problem to admit that the writers sometimes completely suprise me and mess with my brain! I LOVE IT!!!

After 4.18 it seems completely possible! Depending if Lilith would even die for Lucifer's freedom, you can interpret her offer in two ways. She made Sam the offer to stop everything to get him even more interested into killing her, showing him that she is afraid of something. Or she doesn't want to die and really tried to stop everything by getting Sam to take the deal.

I'm so exited to find out what the writers have planed!!

I think demons by nature arent exactly self sacrificing. But thats just me.

However I was thinking back to when Angels were first mentioned. I wonder if the Angels that were mentioned back there in the Houses of the Holy (i think thats what that ep was called) will turn up in Season 5. But thats completely off topic.

I definitely agree that sacrificing themselves is not part of the demon nature but I believe that the big difference could be that Lucifer is somehow like a God for them.
The male Crossroad demon sacrificed himself because he believed in Lucifer ("I made piece with my Lord"). He only had to spill the secret to save his own skin but the sticked with the great demon plan!
I got the impression that Lucifer is like a God the demons whorship, so it could be that some demons are even willing to sacrifice themselves in order to free him, even if it means death for them!
BTW even Alistair mentions religion when he taunts Dean in 4.16. "Believe me son I wouldn't lie about that, it's a kind of religious sort of thing with me"
It would also explain why Ruby could be evil. Maybe even she is part of the big end game plan.

I'm curious how they will solve this riddle! 8)

Well Ruby can just sit at the end of a pointy stick. :D
Yet this is Lilith we are talking about, she just wants to see the world go down into flames and watch it with a gleeful smile. Like come on her Idea of a holiday is being a little girl and killing the family (side note how yum lookin was that cake in 'No rest')

Oh, poor Ruby!
maybe it was part of Lilith's plan to get Ruby and Sam closer!
She played vacation so that Ruby could persuade Sam to use his powers to save Dean, didn't work at that time but well it worked later!

I think Lilith will come back in the last few episodes, so maybe we will know at the end of season 4 what Lilith and Ruby were really up to! 8)
